Safe chimney removal is harder than simply knocking down bricks because each type has a unique structure, weight, and hidden difficulties. Chimneys may develop cracks, leaning sections, or other damage over time, which makes proper demolition even more important.

Careful, code-compliant chimney removal is our area of expertise. We come prepared with all the right tools like scaffolding, demolition hammers, masonry saws, and dust-controlled vacuum. Larger chimneys might need permits, and older ones may contain asbestos or other regulated materials. What a Chimney Removal in Toronto Includes

Free on-site quote. We look at the chimney from the roof down: height above the roofline, what it runs through inside the house, whether any framing rests on it, and how debris gets out. Access decides the price more often than the brick count does.
Permit check. In Toronto and most GTA municipalities a chimney removal needs a building permit because the chimney is part of the structure and the roof. We confirm what your municipality requires before the crew is booked. Permits are not part of our standard scope, but we can help with the paperwork for an additional fee.
Access and protection. Scaffolding or a lift outside, plastic barriers, sealed vents and floor protection inside so the rest of the home stays clean.
The takedown. The stack comes down brick by brick from the top, then section by section through the house. Anything the chimney was carrying is supported before it goes.
Debris removal. Every brick, liner and offcut leaves with us and goes to an approved facility. Nothing is left in the yard.
Handover. The openings in the roof, floors and ceilings are scoped with you at the quote stage so the finishing trades can close them right after the demolition.

Partial Takedown to the Roofline

Not every chimney needs to come out top to bottom. If the stack above the roof is the problem (leaning, spalling brick, leaking flashing) and nothing below is in the way, a partial takedown to just below the roofline is common. What stays has to be properly supported and the roof closed over it, so we assess this at the site visit rather than over the phone.

What It Costs

Chimney removal is priced by height, access, whether it is a full or partial removal, and how much structural support the job needs while the stack comes out. Older chimneys can also carry asbestos-containing materials, which changes the handling. Because every house is different we do not publish a flat price; the free on-site visit turns the factors into a fixed number.

Do I Need a Permit to Remove a Chimney in Ontario?
