This was a unique project that Almar did not hesitate to accommodate, even though it was not a traditional demo. Within a day, they provided me with a quote and details of the job, and were able to schedule my job on a very short turnaround. The team showed up and worked exceptionally hard, over one very long day, to get the job done. They carefully handled all the cabinets and appliances to ensure they were not damaged. What Happens First on an Unsafe Structure

An emergency demolition is not a normal job run faster. The first hours are about making the site safe and getting the right people involved, not about knocking anything down.

Secure the perimeter. Fencing and barricades go up, and nobody enters the structure until it has been assessed.
Assess from outside. We look at what is holding the building up, what is likely to move next, and which neighbouring structures are at risk.
Confirm the utilities are isolated. Gas, hydro and water have to be shut off and capped by the providers, not cut on site.
Talk to the municipality. Emergency work still runs through the building department, and if fire services are on scene they control the site until they release it.
Then plan the take-down. Sequence, equipment and where the debris drops, so nothing comes down in an uncontrolled direction.

If there is any chance somebody is inside the building, or it is on fire, call 911 first. We come after the emergency services, not instead of them.

When to Call Us, and What to Have Ready

Call as soon as a structure is unsafe rather than waiting for a report. The situations we get called to most often:

Fire or flood damage that has left a structure unstable
Storm damage, a partial collapse, or a wall that has started to move
An order from the municipality to make a property safe
A structure that has failed part-way through someone else’s renovation

Have these ready when you call and we can give you a firm window instead of a guess: the address and the access route, what happened and when, whether the utilities are still live, whether anyone has issued an order on the property, and whether the building is attached to a neighbour.
